Claremont is rapidly becoming one of the most desirable addresses amongst Cape Town’s sophisticated southern suburbs. Claremont is your typical ‘leafy suburb’ with tree lined streets, parks and clean open spaces. Located just 10 kilometres from Cape Town, it is just far enough off the beaten track to avoid the crowds, yet close enough to commute effortlessly to wherever you want to be in Cape Town and surrounds.
The Airport, Cape Town CBD, Waterfront and beaches are just 20 minutes’ drive from Claremont. Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are within 10 kilometres and a day trip to the wine lands is an easy 30 minute drive away. If you are a fan of hiking, or just getting out in nature, Newlands Forest, Constantia and Rondebosch are located just 5 kilometres from The Quadrant.
There are a variety of upmarket accommodation options to choose from in Claremont for those wanting to spend time in Newlands, which is right next door and filled with great sporting venues, nightclubs and restaurants. However, whether your tastes lean toward fast food, sushi, pasta, steaks or seafood, you are sure to find a restaurant somewhere in Claremont serving up your favourite dishes.
The suburb is somewhat of a medical hub with two excellent hospitals – Life Kingsbury and Life Claremont, as well as a large number of doctors and clinics within its boundaries.
The main attraction in Claremont is Cavendish Square. This award-winning shopping mall is one of the most well-known in South Africa and boasts over 200 stores. Designer boutiques, big brand names, shoe shops, supermarkets, a cinema, fast food outlets, gourmet restaurants, communications stores and businesses all have premises here. It is highly unlikely that you won’t find what you are looking for at this mega-mall, located on the border of Claremont and Newlands.
Newlands is of course also the home of Newlands rugby stadium and cricket grounds, popular venues for both local and international sporting fixtures. You can also enjoy a spot of ten-pin bowling in Newlands, a stroll through the pristine Newlands Forest, a visit to the South African rugby museum or a trip to the Newlands brewery.
Fine dining establishments and elegant bistros, along with fast food eateries and roadside cafés, abound in Newlands, and when night falls you can choose your entertainment from a range of vibey bars and popular nightclubs such as Stones and Cubana.
After an evening of fun, simply hop on to the My Citi bus back to your Claremont accommodation. Claremont is also served by the main Cape Town commuter railway line for speedy access to the city or, if you prefer to travel by car, you can nip onto the M5 and M3 quickly and easily from anywhere in this suburb.
