Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?  Of course not, you were waiting for all the Cape Town Christmas markets to start up, right?
This December, numerous Christmas fairs are taking place in the Mother City where you can support local business, buy unique gifts and partake of wonderful local cuisine while lapping up the laid-back vibe of Cape Town’s friendly people.
Depending on where your Cape Town City Accommodation is based, you will find various markets near you, where you can indulge your penchant for ‘local is lekker’ to your heart’s desire. These are some of the better-known markets on the go this Christmas in Cape Town.
Cape Town Coastal route, Kommetjie

Fab Ideas is a 6-day Christmas Gift Fair held in Kommetjie, taking place from 11 to 16 December this year. Unique, fresh and funky designs are up for grabs in the community hall which is transformed into a virtual Santa’s workshop during the festivities, and you can look forward to browsing among displays of clothing, crafts, décor and jewellery.  A beer garden will be on the go to keep your whistle wet during the proceedings, along with a wide range of delicious deli eats to keep you fuelled or store up for your Christmas celebrations.

Live entertainment from singer/songwriter Kathryn Swaine is on offer on Saturday 12 December, with Christmas carols taking place the following day on 13 December. Email for more information.
Southern Suburbs

Another stalwart on the upmarket gift scene, the Made in the Cape Christmas Market will change the way you look at upcycled goods forever. This 6-day extravaganza is the big brother of the usual monthly Made in the Cape markets, running for twice as long, from 1 to 6 December, and featuring twice as many vendors.  Only the very best craftsmen have applied to this high-end market, and patrons can look forward to silverware, carpentry, ceramics, décor, textiles and are of the highest ilk at this market, held at Cavendish Square in Claremont.
Even the Kirstenbosch Craft Market, Cape Town’s longest running market, which takes place once a month all year round, will be taking it up a notch this festive season, with a special Christmas edition on the go on Sunday 13th and again on Sunday 20th December this year.  All the usual goodies (with an extra Christmas twist) such as jewellery, pottery, clothing and some great gift ideas will be available at the usual Stone Cottages venue, opposite the famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
Another southern suburbs highlight is the Simply South Gift and Craft Fair which will be taking place from 7-22 December 2015 at the NG Church Constantia, Bergvliet. Check out their website for a preview of the hats, jewellery, clothing, décor, body products, bags, crafts, gifts, toys, throws and stained glass art on offer – all made from scratch by local producers.
Further Afield

If you are looking to enjoy a scenic drive along with your Festive shopping then you will find no shortage of places to fill up your Christmas stockings such as the Stellenbosch Kersmark, Edgemead Christmas Market, and Willowbridge Christmas Slowmarket.

Supporting local markets is not only good for you pocket, it keeps the local economy booming, supports South African entrepreneurs, builds a sense of community spirit, and makes for a wonderful, social day out.
Don’t be the little piggy that stayed home, get out and about this December for a host of local and lavish Cape Town Markets to make all your Christmas wishes come true.
