The town of Ceres is a scenic indulgence of pastures, orchards, mountain streams and fields overlooked by the craggy Cederberg Mountains, just 1 ½ hours’ drive from Cape Town.
Get your fix
Relaxing spas, interesting tours and hikes, shopping in quaint stores and dining on local fare restaurants are all activities that attract people to this tranquil place. The more adventurous souls are also able to indulge in a scenic jaunt of adrenalin while in the area.
A Ceres Zipline Adventure will transport you into the heart of the rugged Schurweberg found in the foothills of the Cederberg, immersing you in the rugged beauty of natural rock formations, rivers and canyons – albeit from a height.
Time to slide
Zip lining takes place year-round, with each season offering a new perspective on these gorgeous landscapes. Flying through the snowflakes or the cooling spray of a rain shower hold equal appeal for the true adventurer, while first-timer ‘flyers’ might want to stick to the windless sunny days of the Ceres summer. Tours depart every hour from 9am to 3pm on weekdays and from 8am to 3pm on weekends.
Operating hours are flexible during the summer months and the 3pm trips are always in demand, so book early if you want to leave later.
Getting ‘down’ to it
The excitement starts from the minute you arrive. After a brief chat on safety, you will be kitted out in a helmet and state-of-the-art full body harness, complete with all the necessary hooks and lines. Next up is a fun ride up the mountain in a battery operated cart with two experienced and qualified zip line guides.
A short walk to the first jumping off point rewards you with stunning views of the Ceres Valley rising up to meet you and after a few deep breaths you are ready to go.
After the initial nerves, you will learn to love the freedom of whizzing above the mountain terrain, flying from point to point like an action-hero up to 40m above the ground.
The course is made up of 8 slides varying in length from 110m to 290m. Together they make up Africa’s longest zip line tour, traversing 1.4km of this unique mountain habitat.
Bring your friends
After your exertions and in celebration of your great leap of faith, you and your companions will be treated to drinks back at the station where you can re-live every thrilling moment.
There is no limit to the size of groups which can book and group rates are available – making this a great team-building activity, or ideal for an unforgettable bachelors/hen’s party or birthday bundu-bash.
Zip lining has an excellent safety record and supervised children between 3 and 7 years old are allowed to join in the fun, so there is nothing stopping you too from taking the leap – as long as you do not have spinal or neck issues, weigh over 120kg, or are pregnant.
Ceres Adventures is so confident in their equipment that they have patented their “Foefie Brake©” & “Foefie Stop©” zip line braking systems.
You don’t need any special gear or training to join in the fun, so simply slip on a pair of comfy pants and flat shoes. Those with long hair should tie it up and if you just can’t resist the selfie, please ensure that you can zip your phone or camera away in your pants or jacket. In the event of rain, Ceres Adventures will loan you a nifty two-piece rain suit.
